What do you do when you hear a voice calling you...
yes, you
and it's not a voice or anyone's voice
You recognize even if you wish to deny - it's the Voice
It seemed to arise from nowhere and it did
- but you've been prepared for this moment in ways you'll never understand -
and it's clear what's said
Somehow, someway something that can't be spoken finds its way through
through... the clouds of doubt and fear... or light of love and peace... or both... or more...
like when in the little church back home a voice was heard, 'Go up'
- not a voice like a human voice -
and a little, shy, 9-year-old boy with no doubt about the voice but afraid... did
walking the aisle, shedding tears carried by something he couldn't see
- a timeless moment... a blossom blossomed... blossoming since -
and through tear-drenched eyes walked up to the preacher man - Rev. Carter - the lad in the glow of a newfound peace
Later, sitting in a car outside the church building the feeling was of a heavy load lifted that the boy didn't know he'd been carrying or for how long
- possibly for lifetimes, his load or that of many others, or both -
Thankfully I followed the voice into an unknown, uncharted land... not knowing to where or how
- it's that way with everyone who says 'yes' - as Jesus called to his first students, "Follow me" - offering no details about the Way only offering the Way
and, in the first Book of the Hebrew Bible, Yahweh says to Abram, "Go to a land I'll show you" - again, no details -
Walking a church aisle between varnished, homemade wooden pews transformed a life
- like a born one being born again... rising from the dead... which is true beyond what anyone can say or think 'true'... church jars cannot contain Oceans -
and it hasn't worn off, rather, that moment has deepened over these five decades beyond what I could've dreamed possible (I've been shown 'land' after 'land,' and still am, the voice and its call never end)
- at first, you say yes to the yes, later, you become the yes -
And at times I've not listened well or not listened at all - but the voice never went away
- that Sunday night the yes wasn't an easy yes until yes, then each step was like floating on air -
What do you do when hearing that voice calling...
you
What do you do to become the yes to the yes you're graced with
